He began his career in 1995 at Standard Chartered Bank (SL) Ltd Head Office Freetown and served as Assistant Head Human Resources Africa Region and Head Human Resources at the Bank. He worked at the National Social Security Insurance Trust (NASSIT) in 2008 as Deputy Director Human Resources and was appointed Director General in 2018. He was appointed to the Board of Directors of Sierra Leone Commercial Bank Limited in 2018.

June 2018 – June 2019 as Chairman National Telecommunications Commission. 2017 to date National Chairman and Leader of the Sierra Leone People’s Party (SLPP) and in 2013 – 2017 Deputy National Chairman and Leader of the SLPP. 2008 – 2017 Lecturer at the Fourah Bay College; and from July 2002 – June 2007 he was appointed Minister of Transport and Communication in Sierra Leone. Then from January 2002 – July 2002 he was Minister of the Ministry of Internal Affairs. In June 1995 – September 2005 he became the National Secretary General of the SLPP. In June 1995 – September 1998 he was appointed as Minister of Mineral Resources Freetown and from June 1986-1988 he was the Executive Chemist for the National Petroleum Company Freetown. In October 1982 – 1986 he was a Tutor/Lab Demonstrator at the University of London King’s College London England. He joined the Board of Directors of Sierra Leone Commercial Bank Limited (SLCB) in 2020.

He started his career in 1988 as Clerk Road Transport Department and Ministry of Transport & Communication. He was Inspector of Taxes Income Tax Department at the Ministry of Finance in 1989 – 1990. He worked at the National Petroleum (NP) as a Commercial Director until his retirement in 2013. He also worked at National Power Authority (NPA) as Marketing Manager and later as Contract Revenue Collection Manager/Consultant at EDSA. Presently Part time Lecturer at IPAM University of Sierra Leone. He was appointed as a member of the Board of Directors Sierra Leone Commercial Bank Limited in 2018.

He started his career as a Research Officer the Central Centre Board Accountant General’s Department Ministry of Finance and Economic Development. In November 2001 he was a Trainee Accountant at KPMG Sierra Leone. In July 2010 he was the Acting Director- Public Debt Management Division Ministry of Finance and Economic Development. He is currently the Deputy Director Public Debt Management Division at the Ministry of Finance and Economic Development. He was appointed to the Board of Sierra Leone Commercial Bank (SLCB) in 2023.

In 1989 -1992 - Assistant Teacher at the Milton Comprehensive Secondary School Bo. 1990 – 1992 – Emergency Response Supervisor at the Sierra Leone Red Cross Society. 2016 – 2017 – World Vision (International Non-Governmental Organization) Sierra Leone. He was appointed as a member of the Board of Directors Sierra Leone Commercial Bank Limited on 16th August 2022.

Mr. Robert Sheku Abdulai served as a Political Finance Officer at the Political Parties Registration Commission (PPRC), jointly hired by the PPRC and IFES between June 13 and December 16, 2008. In this role, he monitored the financial affairs of all political parties, ensuring their accountability to both their membership and the electorate of Sierra Leone.

Mr. Robert Abdulai also held the position of Development Expenditure Systems Accountant in the EU Technical Assistance Project at the Ministry of Development and Economic Planning from 2001 to 2003. In this capacity, he assisted the European Union Technical Assistant in developing an information system focused on monitoring expenditures, projects, the country’s overall budget, the balance of payments, and aid inflows. He also analyzed financial information throughout the development process, with a specific focus on both development and recurrent expenditures.

He was appointed as a member of the Board of Directors in 2018.
